After I get the Golden Crown, I never again speak to the King of Romalia, as he takes the crown away and offers to make me the new ruler. I do beat him at level 10 after a couple of tries, which I enjoyed. The fight with Kandata is fun, mainly due to the fact that if he performs a critical hit on me, he does more damage than my max HP. After that town, I decide to go and give the tower southwest of Kazab a visit, which is where the crown thief Kandata is hiding at the top. That's more or less the only important thing in the town of Noaniel.

The sleeping town north of Kazab has some free armor, a Hide Loincloth, which has 12 more Defense Power than my currently equipped Leather Armor. It takes a few tries, but I get those said items at the board. There are a few helpful things to get there, such as the Boomerang in a treasure chest square, an Iron Shield buyable at the shop square, and a free Steel Sword at the GOAL. On the way to the next town (Kazab) is a shrine, which is where the first dice game board is. The King of Romalia requests that I get his crown back from a thief named Kandata, which will come up in a little bit. In order to get the Dice Game Ticket near the dog, I have to enter the town at night, so that's what I'm fighting around for. At the end of that cave is a teleport that warps me to the castle of Romalia. In a locked house at Reeve is an old man with the 'Magic Ball', an item needed to progress in the Inviting Cave northeast of Aliahan. With the Thief's Key, I am able to get 5 Small Medals, which nets the Thorn Whip, one of many items that can hit multiple enemies at once.
Afterward, I go through the Najimi Tower to receive the Thief's Key at the top. I take a trip to the village of Reeve and get some stuff there, then have to wait until nighttime to get a Small Medal at Aliahan. In hindsight, I should have probably gone with a more HP or MP-centric one, and possibly avoided fighting around for a bit before Baramos.Īt Aliahan, I sell off some of the freebies given by the king, then buy a Leather Shield, some Medical Herbs, and some Antidote Herbs.
So I apologize for it, but the video is still watchable.Īs the game starts, I name my Hero and proceed to answer the game's questions to start with the Sexy Gal personality, which offers the highest stat boosts across the board for a single personality type.
#DRAGON QUEST 3 SNES GUIDE HOW TO#
I have no idea why they produce this, nor how to fix it. For some reason, any of my cartridge systems produce the wavy 'static' effect when I play my NES, Super NES, or Neo-Fami on my capture card. Something else of note is the picture quality in the videos. As this video is somewhat a 'video version' of my walkthrough for the game at, I will not go through every little item I pick up, just the important ones. I hope you enjoy the video and give a solo Hero game a shot. I felt much more confident in taking the tabs out of my Game Genie instead of my Super Nintendo. As an aside, you will notice a Game Genie being used that is simply because my Game Genie is my Super Famicom 'converter'. This video was something I did for fun as far as I know there aren't any videos of a solo Hero playthrough around, so I thought this could serve that purpose and give some people a chance to see how this version of the game plays, which I very much prefer playing over the slower playing, worse sounding, uglier Game Boy Color version. Not only would it take quite a long time to clear out the boards, but the prizes at the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Dice Game boards are nothing my solo Hero needs. The only exceptions to this that I am aware of are the items on the various Dice Game boards and at the GOAL squares in the third and fourth boards. If I do not open a chest, then that chest is either empty, contains a Man-Eater Box, or is a Mimic. If there's an item on the ground, in a pot, or a dresser, or in a chest in a dungeon, I get it. So if that time were removed, I imagine I either just made it under 9 hours or barely had over that time.Ī simple solution is if I had played with a more speed-centric desire over a 'get as much as I can in the game' playthrough instead, which I may eventually do on the Game Boy Color version of the game. The playtime of the video up until the game is beaten appears to be about 9:08:29, with the reset/startup time intact. It's not a "as fast as I can"-type run, more of a "completionist" one in which I tried to get all items found on the ground and in chests, and I went through all of the dungeons in the game as well. This is a solo Hero playthrough of Dragon Quest 3 for the Super Famicom. Speed run of Dragon Quest 3 with a solo Hero in ~9:00.
